Well of course it should be but sometimes we lose sight of what's important in life. Sometimes we don't notice that what we are harming our children by disagreeing or arguing in front of them. The Family Law Act puts the welfare of children at the forefront. The paramount consideration in matters relating to children that are before the court is the children's best interests and the right of children to know and spend time with both parents. However, this has to be balanced against protecting children from family violence and abuse.
If you can't agree about the arrangments for your children then you may just need someone to help reach an agreement that you both consider appropriate. That person is called a mediator, or under the Family Law Act, a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner. Mediaton can help you resolve issues without going to Court, and yes it does work but not all of the time. We offer professional mediation services. Find out more about our mediator here.
At other times applications to Court are unavoidable. If that is the case then Family Lawyers & Mediation Services can assist you through the Court processes. Our Family Law Litigation specialists lead by our Partner Mark Francis will strive to achieve the results that are in your children's best interests.
