Disputes about arrangements for children have no place in the family court system unless there are concerns about abuse of children or family violence.

Family dispute resolution gets results without going to court. The Family Law Act acknowledges the power and value of mediation (family dispute resolution) by providing that applications to court cannot be lodged unless the parents have first undertaken mediation.  (There are exemptions to that general rule.)
